ROLLING STONES TICKET: TOWER THEATER (September 22, 2002)

Rolling Stones tickets for their 2012-2013, 50th Anniversary Tour went on sale last week. The outrageously priced tickets, ranging from $150 to $800 retail, and thousand of dollars on the secondary markets (scalpers, touts and authorized ticket reselling agencies). In July of 1972, the cost of my Rolling Stones tickets were $6.50 a piece. Every seat in the Spectrum Arena was the same price. Over the years, Stones’ tickets increased at a reasonable rate, until the mid-90s, when the price increased hundreds of dollars.

In 2002, the Stones performed three shows in Philly, beginning with a stadium show at the Vet, then moving indoors for the next night’s show at the First Union Center. The final show was held at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby. There were approximately 2, 500 tickets available for the small-venue show. I was lucky and acquired two tickets online went they became available. I used three computers on a high-speed fiber internet network. The tickets cost me $104–a gift!

The photo of my Tower Theater Stones’ ticket is like seeing a Brontosaurus Skeleton in a history museum, something so rare from a long ago time that is embedded in our past.
